Our latest ErgVideo version 4.5 (and of course higher versions from there...) now do registration and unlock using your online account.

We're now supporting only that model and transitioning all customers to it. It carries with it some major benefits to everyone.

Get your new version of ErgVideo on your account page. Login, and click your "user-display" name that will show in the upper right corner. If you have purchased ErgVideos, the download buttons will appear on that page.

With ErgVideo 4.5 (and higher), we've made some exciting changes. Chief among them is simplification of the registration process. Now we use your online account to manage licensing. This change will also pave the way to deliver new value-add features we're planning for the ErgVideo environment.

We've vastly simplified the registration process for your ErgVideos. It's all done through your web account, and the ErgVideo application (v 4.5 and higher) will access your account to register and verify licensing. This is a response to our customer's desire that we simplify the process. Part of that older process was to cater to those who still wanted to operate their PC's without an internet connection. More about that below.

Many people have been granted transfers because their PC's met with end-of-life. We've implemented an "Authorize/Deauthorize" scheme so that now you can deauthorize a PC and re-authorize another, all on your own without contacting us via e-mail.

You will only be permitted 3 authorization cycles, after which a maintenance fee will be charged for further authorizations.

No. The auth/de-auth is not meant to enable ErgVideo use on multiple PC's. It's meant to streamline the process of transferring to a new PC when one breaks down. Authorizing an ErgVideo on a new PC will automatically de-authorize all others on other PC's,and you are limited to 3 authorizations. Modern PC's easily have lives beyond 3.5 years, often more than 5, so this scheme ensures your enjoyment of ErgVideos probably beyond 10 years for most users, without need to pay any maintenance fees. The maintenance fee is necessary to keep the support infrastructure for all of this updated, maintained, and funded.

In delivering the increased convenience and much-desired features, all versions of ErgVideo 4.5 (and higher) require a connection to the internet to auth/deauthorize ErgVideos. We've operated for many years catering to folks who still ran PC's without a connection, but today the effort to support that model, and the inconvenience to the 96% of customers who ARE always connected, can no longer be justified. Our plans are to leverage the "connection-required" aspect to bring you many new exciting features in the future.

Basically, 95% of customer feature requests coming in demand or assume an internet connection is always available. We're going to stop letting "but I am not connected" get in the way of progress, and we aren't expending development resources to continue to support that. In fact, I have to say, it's entirely the opposite. The competitive environment is one of assuming a high bandwidth connection, as was the customer pressure for downloadable content.

We understand that the "internet required" aspect may confound and perplex a few remaining users who do not connect their pc to the internet. Frankly, a pc that isn't regularly updated is more prone to problems and issues than one that is well-maintained. It's a drain on support to cater to these machines.

Certainly, you can continue to use earlier versions of ErgVideo without a connection, but we will be removing the licence-unlock facilities and schema to unlock your ErgVideos under earlier versions. Your license states a single computer license, and if you have unlocked under an earlier version, it will continue to work under that version as long as you do not upgrade. If you need to change computers or need any license maintenance, we will indeed insist that you upgrade to the new version and be connected to the internet. Note that a transfer to a new machine is not even supported under the license, but we've been manually granting exceptions depending on circumstances. This is just making the process more automatic, relieving human resources from needing to engage. To reap the benefit of the 3-pc maximum transfer feature, you must upgrade and you must be connected.

Please don't be surprised, we have always followed this model. If you contact us and report a problem with any earlier version of ErgVideo, we have always responded with "upgrade to the latest version first, your problem will probably go away, because that issue has been fixed."
